The Lincolnshire Sausage PGI Decision
The Lincolnshire sausage is an iconic and hugely important product for our county – and we are so disappointed that it did not get the recognition it deserves and the protected geographical indication status. We are also hugely disappointed for our members who work tirelessly to promote provenance, food credibility and quality and contribute so much to the Lincolnshire economy.
There may be slight variations on recipes but the importance of the individual ingredients and their inherent connection to Lincolnshire is clear. You only have to look at the prominence of this great Lincolnshire delicacy from our food fairs and farmers markets to our thriving autumn Sausage Festival to know that we put the sizzle into sausages.
I'm sure it was one of the main reasons that Lincolnshire won the 2011 British Food Fortnight UK's Top Food County.
The Lincolnshire Sausage Association must be commended for their unstinting hard work in maintaining the profile of the product and this campaign.
Lincolnshire Sausage makers should stand proud and of course can use the Tastes of Lincolnshire or Select Lincolnshire logo to show shoppers that their products are authentic, Lincolnshire-made to a Lincolnshire recipe, sausages.

Wow - what a night!
The brand new DoubleTree by Hilton on Lincoln's Brayford Wharf was the glamorous setting for our Food and Drink Awards – where the 'who's who' of the Lincolnshire food scene gathered to celebrate this year's winning food producers and establishments.
The guests dined on Warm Cotehill Cheese salad, Lincoln Red Beef and Special Edition Chocolate Tart before listening to speaker Tim Nicol from BBC One's Village SOS.
The awards followed, and winning hotels, restaurants, and food producers took to the stage to collect their accolades. The atmosphere in the room was electric – and much cheering and celebration accompanied the winners!
A big thank you to our headline sponsors:
Lincolnshire Co-operative sponsors of The People's Choice Award. This award allowed Lincolnshire's residents, for the first time ever, to pick their favourite county producer. The votes were counted online and over 1,500 people entered! Pipers Crisps, scooped the award on the night
The brand new DoubleTree by Hilton in Lincoln who admirably catered for our sell out event with over 170 local producers and food establishments attending.
